Florissant Explorer

Florissant Explorer has been released from the usability testing. The multilevel interpretive approach will continue to be examined. Florissant Explorer emerged from a research project designed to explore "what works" for visitors to National Parks who use their own smart devices as electronic aids to interpretation. The app is used by visitors for navigation and interpretation as they use the trail system at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument in Colorado. Florissant Explorer concentrates on the geology, ecology and history of the monument, presenting visitors with "place-based" video interpretation based on their location. A feature that is unique to this application is that visitors can choose one of three interest/experience levels for the Monument's geology trail, allowing interpretation to be tailored to that choice. This helps avoid the one-size-fits-all signage that parks, out of necessity often implement.
